Stand on Guard for Canada’s Music

From the Canadian Private Copying Collective (CPCC):

Dear supporters,

Thank you to the over 1,400 Canadians from coast to coast to coast who have asked their MPs to support a technologically-neutral private copying regime.

Our Stand on Guard for Music campaign is an easy way to let the Government know that you want to see a tech-neutral private copying regime to protect the rights and livelihoods of our creators and all their partners in Canada’s recorded music industry.

The campaign, which launched in December 2020, has been a resounding success – thanks to the efforts of our partners and supporters who have shared the campaign information across their websites, newsletters and social media platforms.

Ministers Guilbeault (Canadian Heritage) and Ministers Bains/Champagne (Innovation, Science and Industry), as well as hundreds of local Members of Parliament, have heard directly from their constituents that how we copy music keeps changing, and how rights-holders get paid has to keep up.

However, we’re not finished, and we still need your help.

The Stand on Guard for Canada’s Music campaign will be closing on January 31, 2021.

Until then, we need your help to gather as many more participants as possible from the rights-holders and supporters in your network. As the Government looks toward launching targeted consultations on copyright issues in the coming months, a groundswell of support from across the country will help private copying stay high on this agenda.

Please share this update with others who might be interested, and don’t hesitate to reply to this email with questions.
